Challenge
Malco Products manufactures products that work hard, enhance performance, and stand up to years of real-world use. They challenged the IDS team to create a conformable sander for auto restoration sanding that meets their high standards.
Approach
After using our Innovation Process to generate several approaches, the IDS team proceeded to design, prototype, test, and refine this product until it met functional and cost goals. We also provided assistance in finding qualified domestic suppliers for sourced custom components.
Solution
A unique modular design that scales for multiple SKU’s, with an ergonomic grip, and is the first re-usable sanding block that holds a hand-pressed contour throughout the entire sanding operation.
