Challenge

IDS received this high priority project to develop a mechanical conveyance system including 16 distinct modules in a short timeframe. IDS worked closely with the client, acting as an extension of their development team, in order to accommodate the aggressive project timeline.

Approach

Working as part of an extensive collaborative team, IDS team members took the lead on developing the mechanical structure, including wheelbases, proper support, roller spacing, electrical mounting and brackets for accessories and configurations.

Solution

All components and assemblies were designed to optimize sheet metal manufacturing/assembly and accessibility for maintenance. The first verification prototypes were built within 4 weeks of initial design. The design of all 16 modules was complete in 8 weeks. Modules included parent/child powered straight sections, gravity rollers, left and right skews, herringbones, 90 degree turns,  induct tables, and a lift bridge.
